Roofing

If you are a roofer interested in learning how to install our C21e solar roof tiles, this page will take you through some easy steps and will give you the opportunity to enroll in a training session.

Roofs are changing...
Legislation from Government and consumer demand is driving a change in roofing. 'Active roofs' incorporating solar energy systems are becoming increasingly popular. Roofers with the skills to install solar energy systems are in short supply.

...tiles can make energy
Our C21e solar electric roof tiles generate electricity using daylight. They are simple to install, fixing directly to standard roofing battens, and can add significant value to a house.

Solar tiles are increasingly popular with homebuyers, self-builders and renovators. By being able to offer and install a solar energy system you will be able to wil more work and add value to your business.

Solar installation training courses are available to help you become a C21e accredited installer. Contact us on 020 7803 0258 to learn more, or fill our quick and easy online application form .

* For a south-facing roof, generating 830 units (kilowatt hours - kWh) per 7.8mē of solar tiles

** Using SAP calculation method for grid displaced electricity - 0.568kg per kilowatt hour

As an example, a Solar Roof comprising thirty-six C21e solar electric roof tiles, requiring 14mē of roof space, could provide over 45% of the electricity demand for a typical three-bedroom home, (based on Energy Savings Trust figures of 3,300 kWh per year) or all the electricity for an energy efficient home.

Each system comes in two parts:

Roofer's pack
- C21e solar electric roof tiles
- Screws to fix the tiles to the battens
- Field cables to extend the system cables into the roof space

Electrician's pack
- Grid Connected Inverter - to convert the solar generated electricity from DC to AC for use in the home
- Isolation switches and DC cables
- Kilowatt hour meter, to record the generated electricity
- Personal wireless display, to allow the homeowner to monitor energy generation

Installation...
Here is a short installation video:

Simple Installation
C21e tiles take the place of four conventional tiles, fixing to stadard roof battens with regular screw fixings. According to Bob McGrath, a roofing contractor working on a C21e Solar Roof installation for St James Homes in Reading:

"I thought it was going to be really technical but, having done it, it's really very simple."

Fast to install

Fast to install - C21e solar electric roof tiles are as fast to install as conventional tiles. Each unit can be carried onto the roof by one person and is easily manoeuvered into position.

Simple connections

Simple connections - The solar tiles connect together with simple push-fit connectors. Each tile in the installation is connected to the next, as the tiles are laid onto the batten.

Standard Battens

Standard Battens - The nib of each tile hooks onto the roof batten in exactly the same way as conventional tiles. C21e solar electric roof tiles are designed to interlock directly with additional solar or regular roof tiles, without the need for any flashings.

Easy fixings

Easy fixings - Each tile is fixed to the roof with standard screw fixings. When all of the solar tiles are installed, the leads from the tiles at each end of the roof are passed through into the roof space, ready for the electrician to finalise the installation.
