Roofs are changing...
Legislation from Government and consumer demand is driving a change in roofing. 'Active roofs' incorporating solar energy systems are becoming increasingly popular. Roofers with the skills to install solar energy systems are in short supply.
...tiles can make energy
Our C21e solar electric roof tiles generate electricity using daylight. They are simple to install, fixing directly to standard roofing battens, and can add significant value to a house.
Solar tiles are increasingly popular with homebuyers, self-builders and renovators. By being able to offer and install a solar energy system you will be able to wil more work and add value to your business.

* For a south-facing roof, generating 830 units (kilowatt hours - kWh) per 7.8mē of solar tiles |
|
** Using SAP calculation method for grid displaced electricity - 0.568kg per kilowatt hour |
As an example, a Solar Roof comprising thirty-six C21e solar electric roof tiles, requiring 14mē of roof space, could provide over 45% of the electricity demand for a typical three-bedroom home, (based on Energy Savings Trust figures of 3,300 kWh per year) or all the electricity for an energy efficient home.
Each system comes in two parts:
Roofer's pack
- C21e solar electric roof tiles
- Screws to fix the tiles to the battens
- Field cables to extend the system cables into the roof space
Electrician's pack
- Grid Connected Inverter - to convert the solar generated electricity from DC to AC for use in the home
- Isolation switches and DC cables
- Kilowatt hour meter, to record the generated electricity
- Personal wireless display, to allow the homeowner to monitor energy generation
Installation...
Here is a short installation video:
Simple Installation
C21e tiles take the place of four conventional tiles, fixing to stadard roof battens with regular screw fixings. According to Bob McGrath, a roofing contractor working on a C21e Solar Roof installation for St James Homes in Reading:
"I thought it was going to be really technical but, having done it, it's really very simple."
