Solarcentury shortlisted for Best of British Industry Awards

December 5th 2006
We have been shortlisted for the Best of British Industry Awards which will be announced on February 8 2007. We are one of nine companies shortlisted for the 'Innovation in Industry Award' for exceptional innovation that has driven performance improvement.

Companies from every industrial sector are represented in the shortlists for the seven award categories. An eighth award - for overall best British industrial company - will be taken from the combined shortlists in the other seven categories.

The organisers - AMEC, The Sunday Times and The Work Foundation – were delighted with the quantity and quality of entries. Juliet Sychrava, director of corporate communications at AMEC said: "The entries have flooded in – both from small family-type businesses and from major household names. We're really thrilled to see the range of UK industrial companies, large and small, striving for excellence and taking real pride in what they do."

Commenting on the awards, Sunday Times business editor John Waples said: "The judges are going to have their work cut out to decide on who will win in some of the categories. British Industry has been portrayed as down in the doldrums for too long. "

Will Hutton, CEO of The Work Foundation, said: "The shortlist reflects the new industrial reality. The next economy will be a knowledge economy where our industrial sectors will have a vital role to play. Output will be more high-tech, more value-adding and in more niche areas."
